About DSA 2013

Purpose of Conference

This conference will bring together deaf senior citizens from across the United States, Canada, and other countries to participate in workshops, seminars, and presentations on subjects of vital importance to senior citizens. Sessions will cover such topics as health issues, government services and programs, Social Security, Deaf History, travel, money management, safety, sports, leisure and recreation, and other topics intended to enhance the quality of life for deaf senior citizens. There will also be extensive opportunities for socializing, and attending various kinds of entertainment events and meal functions.

Agenda

As noted in the Purpose of Conference link, the agenda will cover the topics listed, but at the present time it is too early to offer a concrete outline of the agenda. Development of the agenda will take place during the two years leading to the Baltimore Conference.

Entertainment

The Conference Management Team (CMT) is already looking at various types of entertainment to be selected and will present this information at a later date.

Tours

Numerous tours of the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Area will be arranged, as well as tours to other destinations that can be covered in one day, and in some cases, those requiring an overnight stay. Some of these tours will be offered prior to the actual beginning of the Conference. Participation in golf tournaments will be a part of the tours package.

Socializing

Much of the time during the Conference will be available for socializing during both the day and evening hours. Participants are free to establish their own schedule for each day, depending on individual interests and tastes.

Hotel & Special Accommodations

The Baltimore Hilton Hotel is a fully accessible facility and on your registration forms, you should note the special accommodations you need to make your stay a comfortable and satisfying experience.

During the Conference itself, organizers will make every effort to accommodate the specific needs of participants. However, sometimes it will be necessary to determine accommodations on a case-by-case basis while others, such as provision of large projection screens in meeting rooms, will be available for the benefit of all participants.

Registration

Early registration is encouraged so that Conference planners and hotel personnel will have some idea of the numbers of participants that can be expected each day, and especially for special functions such as luncheons and other special events. Early registration also provides significant savings.
